Aim

The Training In Independent Living (TIL) Programme emphasizes goal-oriented training for respective physically disabled individuals, to enable them to overcome their disabilities and maximize their independence. It aims to equip them with the essential skills to manage themselves independently at home and in the community.

Training Duration

Between 3 to 6 months depending on the trainee’s level of physical disability and progress made by the trainee.


Eligibility

To benefit from the Programme, applicants must be those with physical disabilities and they are expected to be :

  • Singaporeans or Permanent Residents
  • Between 13 – 65 years of age
  • Without impediment to normal behaviour


Training Fee

The fees will be based on affordable costs.

Applicants may also apply directly to the Home. 

Each applicant will be assessed for suitability for training. The Singapore Cheshire Home reserves the right to accept or reject any application.


Other Information

  • Training will be conducted on a full-time basis and accommodation will be provided.
  • Trainees will leave the TIL Centre upon completing their training.
  • A certificate will be awarded to the trainee upon successful completion of the training.

  • After a series of mass mailing and networking calls made to various healthcare counterparts on the Home’s services, especially on the TIL Program, the number of applications received has increased by more than 100%. However, the number of admissions has decreased due to various reasons. The applicants’ were either cognitively impaired, facing communications barrier or has a need for intensive nursing care.

The trainees had an eventful year participating in activities with the clients and residents. They particularly enjoy outings as they get to leave the Home environment and meet new people and places. It is hoped that the trainees can continue to interact more with the clients and residents and also, able to participate in the Home’s parties even after their discharge.
